It’s Just Hair

Standard

Growing up I was not allowed to cut my hair. I was bald as a baby and my blonde hair finally grew in around age 2.  By elementary school, my hair was down to my butt. My mom loved it and wouldn’t allow me to cut it. However, since its human nature to always want what you can’t have, I always wanted to cut it. In high school I finally cut it off, but it was still past my shoulders. I have chosen to keep my hair long but once every two years or so I will just cut it off and then let it grow back out. I have donated my hair to Pantene Great Lengths twice now. The second time was on Saturday. I really only wanted to cut about 6 inches off but I figured, eh whats 4 more inches and then I can donate it. Its just hair. It will grow back.

My mom was in town this weekend so I figured she could watch the girls while I went to get my hair cut. I cut my ponytail off at home myself, so I could control how much hair I cut off. I swear I will tell a hair dresser to cut off 2 inches and they cut off 5. So I figured I could measure it at home then get it evened out at the salon. Well I did a particularly bad job cutting my ponytail off this time. I cut it pretty uneven and had a big short chunk in the back. Oops. My response was “oh well its just hair”. I think my mom had a mini heart attack watching me nonchalantly chop my long hair off.

We went to the best beauty salon I’ve ever been to, Fantastic Sams. Yep, $15 hair cuts are my max. I usually even wait until I get a $5 off coupon in the mail. I’ve never gotten it dyed or highlighted so my hair is cheap to upkeep. Hey, I could buy a huge cup of froyo for that $5! I was afraid my hair would have to be cut way shorter in order to even it out but I had the most amazing hair dresser who gave me a cut I love. I always just have long hair with slight layers. I’ve never had a cut put it in. It’s a nice change.

That’s 10 inches gone! My head feels so much lighter. That might seem a little dramatic but you don’t understand how insanely thick my hair is. I always tried for proms and my wedding to get a simple updo in a french twist. I had 5 different hair dressers try throughout the years, I even had my hair cut shorter one year for it, with no success. My hair is too heavy to stay up, even with the thousand bobby pins they place in there. I went for a run Saturday with me new short ’do and it was so nice not to have my long ponytail whipping around getting all sweaty!

The rest of the weekend was spent playing with “Mimi”, cooking, and going ice skating. It was Alyssa’s first time skating and it was a lot of fun.

My new favorite sandwich has been consumed numerous times this weekend.

Its turkey and 2 pieces of swiss on an english muffin and grilled on the george forman. 1/4 avocado and sprouts were added afterwards.

My favorite dinner of the weekend had to be a homamade spinach, artichoke, and chicken pizza.

Alyssa helped make the dough because she likes to eat it. See her acting like she is flattening it out?

No, she’s sneakily pinching a little piece off to eat. The pizza stone Dave got me for Christmas was an awesome present. If you have tried making pizza before and just cant get a nice crispy crust, you really need a pizza stone. It was only like $30 and it makes amazing pizza!

2 pieces for my mom, 1 for Alyssa, and 5 for me. See, told ya I liked it!

What was the highlight of your weekend? Did you have any fun family outings?

  1. btw….you are right and Pop Pop was partially responsible for my dislike of leftovers coz of the stuff he put together like peanut butter and olive loaf…yuck!…but when you said you had lots left over from my visit, I was kinda puzzled…The stir fry was gone from the fist night I thought as we all had seconds (some had thirds!!), the pizza was totally gone..some of us had one piece, some had 2, some had 5.. :) ….I thought most of the chicken was gone as well…what in the heck was leftover???..I LOVE coming to your house to eat..LOVE IT!!!

Can you post the stir fry recipe and link the soy sauce recipe to your recipe tab…took me a while to remember where I saw it…made it last night and it was tasty!!
