This weekend was finally back to normal, thank goodness! Cassidy is healthy and I think we are almost caught up on sleep. There were soccer games, 3 year old birthday parties, church, kickball games, and good food.
On Saturday we woke up and headed out to my kickball tournament. Its an adult spouses league on the military base here. I love it! I miss high school sports so much. I am a very competitive person by nature so I love playing sports or any sort of game. I could only play 1 game unfortunately before we had to be to Alyssa’s friend’s 3rd birthday party. After that we had to rush out for Alyssa’s last soccer game of the season. I have come to realize either soccer just isn’t Alyssa’s sport or she is still just too young. I think it’s the latter. Most of the kids on her team are 4 while she is still 3. She did improve a lot from last season though since at least she will now pay attention to where the ball is and kick it occasionally. Still waiting on her first goal though…next season! After the soccer game we came home and showered (finally, after a very muddy kickball game 8 hours earlier!). Yes, I went to the birthday party and soccer game in my kickball uniform which was covered in mud. I play shortstop and I swear the other team kicked a pop fly ball right to me, probably 6 times out of 10. No joke. Which means I caught around 20 muddy balls (I think I dropped 1 or 2, oops). I even took a couple to the face in order to catch them which left me with a muddy face as well! Anyway, after our shower we were back out the door to Sesame Street Live!
The USO has a Sesame Street tour for military family members. They got these Elmo toys when we walked in the door, and everything, including tickets, were free! Cassidy even had a great time…
After a whirlwind of a Saturday I thought Sunday would be a little calmer. I guess it was a little bit. After going to church we came home and cleaned the house. Then it was off to Alyssa’s end of the season soccer party. We went to a bounce house arena for a couple hours to wear the kids out then to a pizza buffet. The restaurant isn’t my favorite but at least it was completely nut free which was nice. Did you notice I said buffet? Yeah, so that goes without saying I completely overstuffed myself since I have a problem with doing that. Why do I feel like I have to get my moneys worth? I always feel like I have to roll myself out of buffets (or any all you can eat BBQ/party) and literally feel sick afterwards. I should have gone with 2 or 3 less pieces of pizza but I don’t regret a single brownie I ate. My gosh. They were so undercooked, they were amazing! They must have just warmed the batter up then served them, SO good!
I took a break from cleaning for a little bit to get a workout in. I don’t traditionally workout on the weekends but since I only worked out once in the last 3 weeks from Cassidy being sick and hospitalized, I was well overdue. My body finally feels like it has caught up on some much needed rest so I was ready to run, literally! I used the treadmill for a super sweaty workout consisting mostly of running plus a few walking incline intervals to up the sweat factor. Why is it when I take short running breaks to walk that I sweat the most? Not sure but I love it. The sweatier the better! Makes me feel like I really did some work! I followed it up with a little lifting and abs.
Even before working out today I was sore from Saturday’s kickball game. I guess it’s the explosive sprinting from base to base that works out different muscle groups. So I guess we can say I worked out twice this weekend, sounds good to me!
So a normal weekend around here is clearly busy and running from one activity to another. I find that the nicer the weather, the busier we get!
And yes, this is normal as well…
And on a side note…I need some help for meal ideas to bring other families. My husband is in the marine corps and we recently had some losses within our close community. Without getting into detail, we now have a meal train set up to help the families in need and I have several families I am going to be cooking for.
Any suggestions of meals that transport well and reheat well?
I know most people do lasagna or other Italian but they have already been done. What else could I make? Breakfast, lunch, and desserts included…Include links in the comments if you have any ideas! Thanks!
Yay, glad things are getting back to normal for you! I love undercooked brownies too- yum! It sure sounds like you are a tight knit community which is wonderful. What about sandwiches? A loaf of bread, cold cuts, cheese, mayo and mustard packets, lettuce, tomatoes maybe?
we are a pretty tight knit community. we have to be. With our husbands leaving for 9 months at a time we hang out a lot and exchage watching kids so we can do simple things like doctors appointments.
Kickball sounds so fun!
As for meal ideas, you could bring quiche, chili, some sort of grain & bean salad, a prepped and ready for the oven pizza, or peeled/chopped fresh fruits and veggies. That’s such a nice way of supporting others in the community.
quiche would be great for breakfast, or dinner really, thanks! And a fruit salad…maybe I should just make double and keep some myself!
WONDERFUL to see that smiling face of Cassidy’s…she looks all back to herself!!!…that little shirt looks great on Lys…i like it…
So sorry to hear about your losses. That must be devastating. I think muffins and banana breads are always great for breakfast, enchiladas for dinners, and quinoa salads are so delicious (and healthy_ for lunches/sides.
oh enchilladas sound good…thanks!
